Cupcakes by Sonja

Pictured here: Lemon Drop, Vanilla Sunshine and Mocha Motion

Cupcakes are one of life's sweetest pleasures. They're adorable to look at, fun to make, and of course deliciously sinful. When I first heard of the Magnolia Bakery, home of New York's most famous cupcakes ( even featured on Sex & The City) , I knew that I had to visit the West Village one day if only to sample their treats.

So imagine my delight when I met Sonja Ocampo and discovered her cupcakes last Christmas through a mutual friend. She worked at the Magnolia Bakery and now makes her own cupcakes in Manila. I ordered boxes and boxes to give away as presents and to satiate my own cravings as well. They are just heavenly!

She accepts orders and will also be opening her first bakery soon at Serendra. You can choose from a variety of flavors:

I tried cupcakes by sonja today. While the cupcakes were good, the service was horrible. We were there at 2:30 p.m. Apparently, the shop does not open until 3:00 p.m. Neverthless, the girl at the cashier, Cathy, took our orders and our money, then gave us a number. There were two other people waiting for their order ahead of us.

The cupcakes that we ordered were already on display. However, NO ONE WAS DOING ANYTHING TO SERVICE OUR ORDERS OR THE ORDERS OF THE PERSONS BEFORE US. There was this other girl arranging cupcakes on the display shelves. She was obviously aware that there were customers waiting

When I asked about our orders, Cathy responded in an irate voice that they would still open at 3:00 p.m. and we should not expect to be served until that time. Of course, she told us that after taking our payment.

As I said, the cupcakes are good. But I do not think it is worth spending more USD 1.25 (or Php 75) if we get terrible service. I'd rather go elsewhere.

Cupcakes by sonja...yummy...it makes living in the fort area sooo much more worth it. hehehhe. Love the peanutbutter and the mocha flavored one!! and yea, service did kinda suck. They kinda ignore you at first and then when youve stood long enough infront of the cash register someone finally notices you. tsk tsk. But the cupcakes are sooooo good! just get better staff.. or a people skills trainor! good luck

Hi Anon, I love those flavors too! I'm such a peanut butter freak pa naman. I did hear some criticisms on their service (though I've been lucky so far, I haven't had a problem at all), and I hope it's just birth pains as it usually is. :)

want the same quality of cupcakes as sonja but way cheaper? check out www.charcupcakesgalore.com they have very moist choco cupcakes but are served at only 25php per piece. their 1 box of cupcakes (9pcs.) are only 200php!

not kidding! check it out yourself!

their cupcakes are honestly very heavy and moist. it’s not very airy… you know those dry cupcakes sold everywhere? they are not like that.

try niyo. order lan kme sa text or even sa website niya mismo. then they deliver!

o divah?!
