WS #23: Sunrise skydive

Dawn Skydive

Patriotic skydiver

As the Philippine National Anthem played over the loudspeaker, this skydiver jumped out of a plane above thousands of people and unfurled the Philippine flag to officially kick-off the 3rd day of the 11th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Clark Field Pampanga.

Unfortunately strong winds kept the balloons grounded all day. But we did enjoy other treats such as the sight of hundreds of kites flying at once, flying legs, some aerobatic displays, and RC demonstration flying. However, feeling frustrated still, we consoled ourselves with a delightful lunch and some wine at C's and tubs of frozen yogurt at Cold Spoon.

Since I don't have any photographs of beautiful balloons in flight for you, click here to see Sidney's set from last year's fiesta. :) Check out also the other WS photographs here. :)

Oh, you went back to C! I haven't been to Pampanga since our impromptu food trip. I've yet to try Zapata, Cottage Kitchen, Bohemia, Aurely's, Everybody's, etc, and still want to return to eat more of C, Rosie's and Nathaniel's goodies. And what is this Cold Spoon?!

Very wonderful shot.

Aw, im so bummed for you! I had a great time at the balloon festival last year, my not so great photos are my only commemoration of that day. Do go back next year as I'm sure you'll have great photo ops watching the balloons soar.

Thanks Malaya, we actually did have a lot of fun. So despite the initial disappointment, we turned it into a fun road trip. :)

Thanks Lilli & Nevada, I loved how the sunrise came out there too. :)

Hey Katrina! Cold Spoon is a new frozen yoghurt place in Angeles, you can't miss it. It's cute, looks like a little igloo. The yogurt itself is good stuff, but they need to work on the toppings which were mostly canned or bottled syrups and frozen fruits. But the yogurt - yum!! I was in heaven. :)

Thanks Chris!

Hey Mila! Yes it was a bummer, but not for long. I got to tour them around Bacolor, we had more time to linger in C and chat with Chef Chris, hung out in Cold Spoon, toured the new Nayong Pilipino (which was a disappointment actually), and went back to the field to watch some aerobatics and play with kids and their kites. :)

That looks like an adventure. I wonder how bearing the flag up there affects the sky diver's journey.

Good question, Sandy. I've never jumped off a plane so I wouldn't know the process though. But it is something I'd like to try someday. :)

Hi tutubi, good for you you went on a good day. That's also the day my nieces and nephews went so I'm happy for them that they got to see the full effect. :) Of course, they'd appreciate it more than me.

Thank you very much, stev & emz, and genny!

Natalie, it really was a fun day out, the weater was pleasant, the company was a blast, and the food was excellent. :) Pretty good combination I must say.

Thanks, Caroline! :)

Sakai, I just watched that move last Monday night and it made me think about a lot of things I'd like to do and see before I die. Maybe we should start our own bucket lists. :)

Sidney, I didn't wake up early - I didn't sleep!! I left the office almost 1 am friday night and had to meet up with my friends at 3am to leave for Clark. So I didn't sleep anymore, just went home, showered, charged my cam battery and then left again. So that's even more frustrating right? heehee

Yes, B, they did! Which I was really happy about because that's when the kiddos went. I didn't want them to get bitin like we did. :)

hi there,

glad to know that a lot of people still rave about Pampanga's food and delicacies. I grew up there but have not tasted all of those food that keep people coming back.

Idle me, you're province's cuisine is fantastic! You are very lucky to have grown up there. :) And yes, we do keep coming back for more. We can't help it. :)
